Knowledge and Thinking
In my Video Game Design, my first project was to create a 2D game. This was very difficult at first. I was expected to learn the workshops on how to code, but I did not understand a single concept. When I asked for helped, I was more confused than before and wished I didn't ask in the first place. I was behind in assignments and only did the ones that didn't involve code because anything was better than coding. This was a very difficult thing to grasp, but something interesting happened. I was able to decipher the complex words. With the help of my classmates, I reworded what each concept meant. I looked at other people's work and saw what they were doing. By doing all of these things, I was finally able to understand what each concept meant. For example, data types are what defines each object in your game. Let’s say you have an ex-cop. A data type you would use for the ex-cop is Rectangle. Rectangle defines the size and the location the ex-cop is on the screen. Another would be Texture2D, which is the actual picture of the ex-cop. There are many more data types that are used in coding and each one does a different thing.
Oral Communication
There was only two presentation I did in my Video Game Design class, even though I scored a 100% for oral communication on both presentation, I am very proud of this presentation. I had to do this presentation by myself even though it was a group project. I hadn't planned on doing the presentation myself, but it was fine because after doing all the work it's easy to present. As long as you do all your work, all you have to do is talk about what you did. For my game, I explained the story of my game and the code used to make the game. I was able to explain to everyone in my class the code need to create my game and after I was done, I was applauded for how detailed and fun my presentation was.
How I took mastery of my learning
I hope to become a Video Game Designer and this is the first step in order to achieve my goal. Even though what I did was basic coding, with this knowledge, I will be able to achieve my dream sooner.
